Frequently asked questions
My bird has a broken wing or foot, can it be mounted?
A broken humerus bone or forearm bones can typically be fixed. If the bones are shattered especially near the wrist i may recommend a standing pose as flying mounts will not be as stable, especially on larger birds like geese. I cannot fix a broken wrist bone however. Any bird sent in with a broken wrist will have to be mounted in a standing pose. broken and shot up feet will be replaced with artificial feet at an extra charge if they are severely damaged.
My bird has broken feathers, can they be fixed?
I cannot fix broken or missing feathers. we can pick a pose that helps hide the missing feathers. If your bird has severely broken wing or tail feathers, I recommend bringing in a spare parts bird, or holding out for a better bird to mount.
Do you taxidermy exotics or farm raised birds?
Yes!
How do I care for my mount?
Please keep your mount out of direct sunlight. Avoid placing mounts in bedrooms or areas that generate a lot of dust. Do not place your mount in areas with high humidity. Once a month I recommend gently wiping down your mount with a microfiber towel. Do not excessively touch or roughhouse mounts (kids, pets). I highly recommend spraying mounts outside once a year with a permetherin based pesticide to ensure no carpenter beetles or moths will ever damage your mounts
Do you fix broken mounts/ other taxidermists mounts?
No.
How do I store a bird to be mounted?
Please freeze birds as soon as possible wrapped tightly in a couple layers of cellophane (ensure no gaps!) or double bagged in a ziploc bag with all the air squeezed out. If storing for more than a few months please wrap the feet and head in a wet paper towel before freezing. Please don't store birds in pantyhose or vacuum sealers
